The EP was recorded at Planet Studios (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), mixed and mastered by Richard Bélanger and Jordan Barillaro and consists of jazz standards with arrangements and originals by Nick and Solane. The record delivers one-of-a-kind intimate and honest experience in a versatile duo setting of guitar and vocals.
Set Sail has Solane Sancho de la Chenelière (vocals) and Nick Semenykhin (guitar), featuring Michel Donato (bass) on selected tracks. Nick and Solane’s goal is to deliver to the people the beauty of each composition using a unique approach, deep interplay and creative arrangements. That goal only gets amplified when Michel joins them, adding an extra layer, letting Nick and Solane spread their wings even more.
"Nick Semenykhin and Solane Sancho’s new EP, “Set Sail” features the duo (joined by bassist Michel Donato) performing a half dozen tunes that beautifully showcase their talents. Whether singing in French or English, Solane’s performances are striking: her original style, excellent control of pitch, and absolutely unpretentious feeling of emotional authenticity are a pleasure to hear. With his rich clean tone, supportive accompaniment, and thematically compelling solos, Nick's guitar playing is the perfect foil for Solane's singing. Their choice of material (some standards and some originals co-written by the two of them) and their obvious comfort performing together make this first outing a pleasure to hear.” - Rory Stuart
